Make your UK invoice
The generator opens in GBP. Add your details and line items, set your VAT rate in the Tax % field, and the totals update live — then download a PDF.
What a UK invoice should include
If you’re VAT-registered in the UK you must show your VAT number, the VAT rate (20% standard, 5% reduced, or 0%), and the VAT amount as its own line — put the rate in the Tax % field and it’s calculated for you. If you’re not registered, simply leave VAT off and don’t mention it. Every invoice should carry a unique invoice number, your name/trading name and address, the client’s details, the supply date, and clear payment terms.
For the universal essentials, see the full invoice checklist, or read how to invoice a client end to end.
Frequently asked questions
What must a UK invoice include?
A unique sequential invoice number, your business name and address, the customer’s name and address, the invoice date and supply date, a description of the goods or services, and the amount due. If you’re VAT-registered, add your VAT number and show the VAT rate and amount separately.
Do I have to charge VAT?
Only if you’re VAT-registered (mandatory once your turnover passes the HMRC threshold, optional below it). If you are, put 20 in the Tax % field for the standard rate. If you’re not registered, don’t add VAT or reference it on the invoice.
